2 Nephi Ch. 17-24

While reading in 2 Nephi chapter 17, I came across vrs 15 which reads, "Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil and to choose the good."  Then over in vrs 22 it reads, "And it shall come to pass for the abundance of milk they shall give he shall eat butter; for butter and honey shall everyone eat that is left in the land." This led me to think of the term a land flowing with milk and honey. Post any thoughts that you may have. Add any insights that you have while reading these chapters.

  1. My thought is from 2 Nephi 19:16. This short verse is about leaders. People will do what they see their leaders do. So, leaders can lead people astray even without meaning to because will follow things that they do even without thinking about it. Truely the only flawless leader is Jesus Christ. He is a leader that we can and should follow without being led astray. I think this is true even outside church and family. For example members of a sports team will do everything their leaders do, sometimes even if they are told to do differently.

The moral of the story is to be a good example. Learn to be a positive leader. Follow Jesus Christ.

Thoughts about Butter and Honey- Honey is made by bees, a symbol of industry. Bees work work work all season long and the result of their work is sweet honey. Well, how do we get butter? (Before factories and grocery stores) Have a cow, feed the cow, milk the cow, skim the cream, make the butter. Lazy people are not going to end up with butter. It takes too much work. Industrious people are the ones with the butter.

    I love butter :)

  2. I am pretty sure that butter and honey are staples of prosperity. This just seems to suggest that the righteous will prosper in the land.

We should live our lives in such a way that Heavenly Father can bless us with butter and honey as we "refuse the evil and... choose the good."

    Mosiah 2:41

41 And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it.
